Bail Bond Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I start the process to bail someone out of jail?
A: You call Bad Boys Bail Bonding Company at 256-880-5245. The agent on duty will get the name of the defendant and a contact number for you. The agent will call the jail; find out the charges, bail amount, and any other pertinent information. The agent will then call you back to discuss the arrangement in getting the defendant out of jail.

Q: How much is the bond fee? What does all this cost?
A: We post a bail bond with the court for the full bond amount. For this service, we charge a percentage fee. Generally, we charge a standard 10% fee but this varies with the bond amount. We are sure you can understand that we have minimum costs associated with writing any bond, no matter the amount, so it wouldn't be economically feasible to charge only $25.00 on a $250.00 bond or $50.00 for a $500.00 bond, etc. Certain bonds require a higher percentage fee. Please call us to discuss your individual bond fees and any financing, if needed. Once the bond fees and any associated jail processing fees are paid, there will be no more money due as long as the arrested person meets their responsibilities and does not cause the bond to be forfeit or cause risk of bond forfeiture.

Q: Is the bail bond fee refundable?
A: No. Once a bail bond has been posted for the criminal defendant, the money you paid is the service fee provided by the bail bond company and is non-refundable.

Q: How long does it take to get someone out of jail?
A: The paperwork generally takes 10 minutes to complete. The release time varies from thirty minutes to upwards of three hours. It's safe to say that the busier the facility holding your loved one, the longer it will take to be released.

Q: How do I pay you?
A: We accept Cash, Money Orders, Cashier's or Bank Checks, and all Major Credit Cards. We can also provide payment plans after accepting a standard down payment towards the bond fee.

Q: As co-signer, how long am I responsible for the bond contract I signed?
A: You are responsible until the defendant is sentenced as to whether they are found guilty or not guilty. As per the bond contract, the co-signer will also be responsible for paying any balance of the bond fee that may remain unpaid, as well as any recovery costs, or bond amounts that maybe forfeited by the courts.

Q: Can I revoke a person's bond once they have been released from jail?
A: Yes, you can revoke a bond with the consent of the bail bond company. In order to revoke the bond, the criminal defendant must be returned to jail. As the co-signer, you will have to pay for the expense to have the recovery agents return the defendant to jail. Once the defendant has been returned to jail, the bond has been revoked and you are released from the liability of the bond unless there is an outstanding balance of a bond fee.

Q: What is forfeiture?
A: Forfeiture occurs when a defendant fails to appear at a required court appearance. The court is required by law to immediately send a notice of forfeiture to the bail agency and to the defendant.

Q: If I co-signed for a person who misses court, what is my responsibility?
A: The court issues a warrant for the defendant's arrest. A 'failure to appear' notice is sent to the bail bond agency and the case is assigned to a fugitive recovery agent. In most cases, a bonding company will be able to return the person, who failed to appear in court, to jail by using recovery agents or bounty hunters. As the co-signer, you are liable for the expenses for returning the defendant to jail. If a bonding company is unable to return the defendant to jail, as a co-signer, you are liable for the bail bond and court costs that will be paid to the court.

Remember, that as a co-signer, you are responsible for the defendant's appearance in court. So, your cooperation is very important. In the case where the defendant is not apprehended, then the bonding company has to pay the full amount of the bond to the court. At this point, you will be contacted by the bonding company to pay for the bond in full.

Q: Can I get a T-shirt WITHOUT going to jail?
A: YES! Come by our office to purchase one. We sell them at our cost and appreciate the advertisement and support!
